The Samaj established in 1903 will award a literary person with the Justice Dipak Mishra Sahitya Samman for his or her overall contributions to Odia literature every year.

Library

Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Library

To make language study more effective and to involve more and more people in odia literature , the members of Utkal Sahitya Samaj thought seriously of creating library on its premises. Shashi Bhusan Ray, Chintamani Acharya , Laxmi Narayan Sahu, Advocate Debendranath Mishra donated books to expedite the creation of the library. Due to the concerted efforts of many persons in 1929 a small library and reading room was setup on the premises of Utkal Sahitya Samaj. By 1936-37 the number of books of the library reached 3686. In 1944 Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Library was set up. A small house was constructed for this purpose and the then Chief Minister Nabakrushna Choudhury inaugurated the library. Information Alert Services (Newspaper Clippings, Current Contents and Book Reviews) are also available for consultation. An average of 150 users visit the library on any given working day, making it one of the most popular libraries in the region.

In 2003 A.D to mark the centenary celebration of Utkal Sahitya Samaj a big building named “Satabdi Bhawan” was constructed. This hall bristles with literary cultural and musical evenings. “Sridhar Pathaghar “ (Reading Room) and “Banabihari Smruti Pathagar” are worth mentioning addition to Utkal Sahitya Samaj . During 2014-16 implementing the constitutional provisions of Utkal Sahitya Samaj its branches were set up in Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Puri, Bargarh, Jajpur and Kalahandi.

Many research scholars among Madhusudan Pathagar National Book Trust has kept many books published in odia in Vyasakabi Bhawan for sale and promotion. In reality, Utkal Sahitya Samaj has become hub of cultural and literary activities in Odisha.
